Swap your wheels for a boat and explore the diverse cultures of the local villages. Cruise down the scenic Nam Ou River and end your trip in the beautiful city of Luang Prabang. Bike around town and visit the stunning Kuang Si Waterfall. This trip is for adventurers who want to experience Laos in a different way.

Depart early morning (6:30AM) for a 2 hours transfer to the Lao/Thai Border crossing. Cross the friendship-bridge and following completion of border formalities, you will be met by a representative of Shompoo cruise in front of the Lao immigration office. We then transfer to the boat pier and board the cruise for an unforgettable cruise downstream the Mekong. Lunch is served on board. In the afternoon we visit a Kamu minority village. The boat arrives in Pakbeng by early evening where you will be transferred to your accommodation.

OudomxaiNam Kat - Meet the ethnic groups of Northern Laos by 4WD
We begin our journey by 4WD, venturing into the hills to visit the villages of the Ikho, Hmong & Khamu People; three of the many ethnic groups in Laos. Out first transfer is to Muang La, where we continue our ascent into the hills. The route climbs to 1,300 meters above sea level, offering breathtaking views of the stunning mountain scenery.
Our first stop is a Khamu village, where we’ll have the opportunity to meet the local people and learn about their way of life. We then travel deeper into the mountains to visit an isolated Hmong village. Originally from the high steppes of Tibet, the Hmong people have a rich culture deeply connected to their livestock and traditional ways.
After exploring the Hmong village, we drive to the Ikho village. The Ikho people, who trace their origins to Tibet and Yunnan Province in China, still maintain customs passed down through centuries. We’ll walk around the village and immerse ourselves in their unique way of life. We then enjoy a picnic lunch amidst the incredible surroundings before continuing to another Ikho village. We then make way back to the lodge, arriving by late afternoon.
Level of difficulty: 2/5 - Walking shoes and sun hat are recommended. During the rainy season, there is a risk that the mountain may become impassable

Oudomxai - Nam KatNam Ou River Cruise to Ban Sobjaem
After breakfast, we leave the resort behind and transfer in 2 hours to Muang Khua, a sleepy town located on the bank of the Nam Ou River. learning about the local specialties from our guide and selecting favorites for our upcoming picnic lunch, Then, we board a private local boat and cruise downstream on the beautiful Nam Ou River. Get acquainted and enjoy lunch while cruising through the tranquil countryside. After around 2½ hours, we disembark and board a minivan for a short trip to pass the Nam Ou Hydropower Dam. Downstream of the dam, we continue our cruise until we reach the village of Ban Sobjaem, arriving in the late afternoon. We disembark right at the colorful gardens of our friendly host, Mr. Khamphuey. Select your preferred room, and have some free time to settle in and freshen up. While the sun sets behind the mountains, we head out to explore the town, where the local villagers specialize in Silk & Cotton weaving. Stroll the streets and notice how almost every house has a loom right on the roadside. We return to our hosts, who are preparing some tasty dishes. Dinner is served overlooking the river, where we take in the peaceful setting and sounds of the jungle, before bedtime.

Nam Kat - Nong KhiawCruise down to Nong Khiaw, Trek to Ban Tad Mook on the way
If you wake up early, you could go out and witness the village come alive. Stop by the basic wooden village temple, before returning for breakfast at 8AM. After breakfast, we bid farewell to our hosts and continue our explorations downstream by boat. After 45 minutes, we reach the riverside village of Ban Sop Kong, where we start our trek to Tad Mook Waterfalls. We follow a path through forest and rice fields for an hour, before reaching the limestone waterfalls. If you like, you can go for a swim in the natural pools. We then trek back to the village and continue our final boat ride, arriving in the town of Nong Khiaw, by early afternoon.

Nong Khiaw - Luang PrabangLuang Prabang by Road
This morning, we head south by road to Luang Prabang. The morning drive brings us out into rolling countryside where you can admire the beauty of the Nam Ou River and the surrounding rice paddy fields. Where to Mekong meets the Nam Ou river, we cross the Mekong by local ferry to visit the mysterious Pak Ou Caves; two caves set in a limestone cliff facing the Mekong River crammed with thousands Buddha statues of various shapes and sizes. We arrive in Luang Prabang by lunchtime where you have the rest of the day at leisure.

Luang PrabangHalf day cycling city tour
After breakfast, we begin our half-day exploration of Luang Prabang by bicycle. We first visit the quaint Royal Palace Museum, which gives a good overview of the local history. We follow the quiet back lanes to the beautiful Heuan Chan Heritage House. Explore the house and its historical items and architectural charms while learning about the connection it has with the Royal Palace. After a refreshing Iced Tea in the gardens, we continue our cycle up the peninsula to the country’s most historic and enchanting temple, Wat Xiengthong. With its roof that sweeps low towards the ground, this temple's architecture best represents the classical Luang Prabang style. We wander the temple grounds before crossing the road to Wat Khili where this temple’s charming traditional library building houses an historic photo exhibition of Buddhist heritage. Our final visit today, is the excellent ‘Traditional Arts and Ethnology Centre’, which gives a great insight into the rich and diverse ethnic and cultural blend of Laos.

After breakfast, we transfer out of town which takes us to the beautiful Kuang Si Waterfall where you can cool off with a refreshing swim in the turquoise pool or walk along the forest trails. Next to the falls is a Bear Rescue Centre, which does a great job in protecting and rehabilitating the rare Asiatic Black Bear. We transfer back towards town, and stop on the way at the Laos Buffalo Dairy, a social enterprise which helps underprivileged farmers with new sources of income by producing artisanal cheese from buffalo milk. Meet one of the managers for a guided tour around the farm and learn about the challenges, achievements and future plans. Get up close to the friendly buffalos and help to caretaker to wash and to feed the calves. Finish the tour with a tasting platter of different Buffalo-milk cheeses, Coffee and delicious home-made ice-cream at the café
We return to Luang Prabang by mid-afternoon, where you have the option to stop at Ock Pop Tock, a silk weaving centre. Here you will be given a guided tour and the silk weaving process will be explained.
Tip: bring a towel with you if you would like to swim at the waterfall

The superior rooms was built later on 2017. The hotel features now with 25 rooms (15 standard and 10 superior rooms). Nestled among many temples, Villa Chitdara is in a quiet street but only less than 5 minutes walk to the night market. -

- Land transfers from destination A to destination B are carried out by local drivers. We always try to find English-speaking drivers for our guests. However, it may happen that they do not always speak English well or only a few words.
- A description of a tour is always a standard description. Actual programs may always vary slightly, depending on the (weather) conditions. However, the intention of the tours always remains the same.
- Standard check-in time is from 2:00 PM. Standard check-out time is at 12:00 PM. Early check-in or late check-out can be booked for an additional fee.
